Music brings people together. AfaSbor is helping stroke survivors with aphasia rediscover their voices. 🎶
In February, as part of the AktivnÄ› po mrtvici (Active After Stroke)Â project, we launched AfaSbor, the first choir in the Czech Republic created specifically for people living with aphasia after stroke.
The choir provides a safe and welcoming environment where people with aphasia can meet regularly, sing together, build new friendships, and strengthen their communication skills.
AfaSbor is led by Mgr. et Mgr. Michaela Bobáková, a clinical speech and language therapist, Mgr. Tereza ZahradnĂÄŤková, a music therapy student and special education teacher, and project coordinator Lucie Pražáková.
The choir meets once a month in Brno, with the option to join online. Each rehearsal begins with speech and vocal warm-up exercises, followed by singing well-known Czech songs together. Everyone participates at their own pace—whether by singing, humming, or gradually joining in.
🎥 This video offers a glimpse into one of our rehearsals. We are delighted to see people with aphasia, their families, and healthcare professionals from across the Czech Republic coming together to build a supportive community united by music, shared experiences, and meaningful connections.
